Microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) technique was developed for the extraction of sennosides from Cassia angustifolia. Several influential parameter of the MAE procedure (Ethanol concentration, Solvent volume, Microwave power and Extraction time) were studied through single factor experiments and orthogonal experiments for the optimization of the extraction protocol. The optimal condition of the MAE were : Ethanol concentration 60%, Solvent volume 40ml, Microwave power 140W and Extraction time 7 min, while extraction yield of sennoside was 18.66% mg/g. The developed MAE method provide a good alternative for the extraction of sennoside from Cassia angustifolia.
